Probably 'cause he didn't get the money for doing it!! Really though, how could it be a bad install? Did he give you any specific reasons for thinking that? Aside from the damn CEL, I took ALOT of time to make things clean. I'd like to know. I take alot of pride in my work, and that ain't even my career. Just a hobby (which is probably better)! After saying this, I don't dare compare myself to some of the guys here, who do this for a living, like Jim. But I like to do things right.
